Google just changed how your ad budget gets spent
· Mizner Digital · Digital Marketing
If you run Google Ads for your business, you know the frustration of watching your daily budget bleed into random mobile apps and low-converting banner spots.
Google just rolled out new Channel Prioritization and Budget Allocation controls across Search, Shopping, Performance Max, and Demand Gen. For the first time, you can label placements as high-priority or low-priority, forcing Google's automated bidding to fund your best channels before spending a dime on secondary inventory.
For small businesses with lean ad budgets, this is a huge win. You can finally keep your money locked onto people who are actively searching for what you sell.
Here's the catch: Google turned every channel to 'high priority' by default. Plus, the old display controls inside Search campaigns are scheduled to retire by February 2027. If you leave your campaigns on autopilot, Google might start spreading your budget across networks you never intended to fund.
Take five minutes this week to jump into your Google Ads dashboard and mark your secondary placements as low priority.
